Let's Not Go To The Movies

10/13/2017

We don't like to think of entertainment as a loaded trap, but that's what most movies are. If they aren't loaded with propaganda—both noticeable and subliminal—they are aimed at keeping us fearful, dumbed-down, and desensitized. There are no other reasons for the blatant exploitation of otherwise mostly-talented people.

It's almost difficult to imagine movie-makers going further down the abyss. How much more explicit can sexual and violent scenes get? It seems that all of this unnecessary and disturbing material couldn't get worse. What's the point of it all, anyway? Are we really so stupid that we can't surmise what's happening if given just a hint or a clue? No, that's not it at all. There's a much deeper and more sinister plot going on and it pervades our whole society, not just the entertainment industry.

What's the quickest and easiest way to appeal to our baser instincts? Put sex and violence in our faces. Make us see, hear, and feel things that most literally, push our survival buttons. We react to these scenes viscerally and emotionally. These powerful feelings set a cascade of neurochemicals flowing throughout our bodies and literally alter who we are for the time we're watching those scenes, and then later any time we remember them. Seen enough, these types of scenes—and our reactions to them—cause us to become desensitized. What once provoked a reaction, now doesn't touch us at all.

The Effects

Fear puts us into fight, flight, or freeze mode, stressing our whole mind-body system; dumbing-down places all the "answers" in front of our faces so we don't have to think at all; and desensitization makes us more and more willing—if not eager—to continue going along with the whole plot. All three of these—fear, dumbing-down, and desensitization—can easily carry over into our daily lives. In the case of desensitization, we're told that what we see on a screen (television, computer, video game console, etc.) doesn't affect our real-life behavior. However, I contend that every experience we have affects us deeply and all of our experiences stay in our inner computers—our unconscious minds. Why input things that are detrimental to our health and well-being?

There are many theories about this exploitation of the masses, but what I can say is it's no accident. Entertainment can be a very effective tool when it comes to creating ill-health and pain. It's being used against us all the time and what's more, we pay for it. Not only are we paying with the quality of our lives, but we're paying money to the brainwashers so they can continue to hurt us!

The sad thing is that most of us not only don't realize what's really happening, but we actually beg for more. We put these people on pedestals, watch with great fervor as they laud and fete each other with awards, and worship them as if they were some kind of god. As long as we willingly take part in this game, once again, we keep ourselves enslaved.

Please don't misunderstand. I'm not a prude, nor do I have any disdain for the cinema or the acting profession. I'd like to see this business run by people who have a conscience, if that's even possible. How much worse does this have to get before people wake up and see what's being done to them and stop participating in their own demise? That's the question. And, of course, this isn't just about movies. It's an unfortunate, but relevant query for every part of life on this planet. What will it take? What level of disaster will it take for more people to open their eyes, look around, and see what's really happening?

We're so invested in wanting ease, pleasure, and convenience, but most of us can't even explain why these are so important. As Bartholomew said, we're not here to be happy; we're here to become aware. If we continue to use the entertainment industry to help us escape the dull and depressing times of our lives, we're putting more nails in our collective coffin. Don't let this industry make you scared, dumb you down, and desensitize your feelings. The only aim here is to make us more easily led, as if we are a blind flock of sheep. Reclaim your individuality and your power. Watch movies that reflect these values and those of the Great Spirit. We don't need to be "entertained" by death and destruction. No one needs to be distracted by someone else's pain in order to feel better. It's one thing to see a movie that makes you think; it's another to have a movie do the thinking for you. Become aware. Get to know and understand what lifts you up, inspires you, and helps you to be a better person. These are qualities we must ask for from our movies. Everything else isn't worth our energy.
